Our History
Basic Christian Education and BCE Academy are conservative Christian outreaches to homeschooling families and Church ministries. For more than 34 years we have served homeschooling families and Church ministries nationally and internationally.
Basic Christian Education was founded in 1982, by Abe Schwartz of Nottawa, Michigan. His goal was to promote Godly education through establishing Christian Schools and assisting Homeschooling families. Upon Abe's retirement in July of 2007, Basic Christian Education was relocated to Greenville, Ohio, under the direction of Jim Leonard, a longtime friend and fellow laborer with Abe. Basic Christian Education is committed to the same Biblical principles upon which it was founded. We understand that an education in which Jesus Christ is central will influence the whole course of a student’s life.
We believe in the Biblical command that parents are accountable to God to bring their children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4) and that “children are an heritage of the Lord,” as stated in Psalm 127:3. The education of each student is the responsibility of the parents whether the teaching is done by the parents or others. The ministry, of Basic Christian Education / BCE Academy, exists to assist parents in fulfilling their God given directive.
Our goal is for parents to have success in providing a Christian education that helps students learn to see all of life from a Biblical point of view. We should all desire to meet our Biblical mandate to train in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6). With this end in view, we have selected curriculum built upon Biblical precepts and divine absolutes. We see the final goal of academics being students equipped for a God-honoring, productive life today and into the future, culminating in eternal life with Jesus in the home He has gone to prepare for us.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
The staff of Basic Christian Education collectively bring more than 100 years of experience assisting students and families in successful use of our academic program. We have all taught in homeschool and Christian school settings using our curriculum. We each continue to regularly work with students in academic settings using our curriculum. We are available to you; bringing our special areas of understanding to meet your student’s unique needs. We understand that each student is unique and that God has a plan for their lives. We will be pleased to have a part in helping you prepare them to fulfill that plan.
